What does offline POS mean here?
In a configured local deployment, the POS connects to the store server rather than relying on a continuous connection to the cloud POS server. Losing your internet connection is different from losing access to the main computer or local network.
The main computer must stay powered on with its store services running. Additional tills need a working network connection to it. POSMENTOR EL also has a cloud connection option; installing the desktop app alone does not make a cloud-connected setup offline.
One store server. Connected tills.
Each desktop installation includes a local print service. Printer compatibility, configuration and network access must be checked for the venue.
Understand the different interruptions
| Situation | What it means for your setup |
|---|---|
| Internet connection is lost | The local store server can remain reachable while the main computer and local network are working. Confirm your required service workflows in a controlled demonstration before relying on them during an outage. |
| An additional till loses its LAN connection | That till cannot rely on access to the store server. Restore its connection before continuing server-dependent operations. |
| The main computer or store server stops | Connected tills lose their shared server. They do not become independent offline stores. |
| Card payments | Requirements depend on the payment provider, terminal and connection. Local POS operation does not guarantee offline card authorisation or refunds. |
| Website orders and marketplaces | External online services require their relevant connections. Do not assume new orders or updates can reach a disconnected store. |
Confirm the setup before service
- Choose local deployment or cloud operation explicitly during setup.
- Confirm the main computer, additional tills, network and supported peripherals.
- Use a demonstration account to check order entry, cash-sale recording, kitchen handover and printing during a controlled internet interruption.
- Check local-network loss separately from internet loss, and agree a recovery procedure.
- Confirm backup and restore arrangements, account setup, licensing and any cloud data-transfer requirements. Do not assume automatic cloud synchronisation is included.
Workflow coverage depends on the configured installation. Ask for the exact operations your team needs to be demonstrated; this page does not promise that every feature works without internet access.
